The SMA E-Document GmbH model SMA VERSASCAN A1 – A0 & Double A0 Flatbed Scanners plus the A2-A1 & A0 Book Scanners all have a Scanner Head that has TWO-2 Light Sources.

Theses  TWO-2 Light Sources can be setup to run together or they have the ability to switch one off & be set at an angle of up to 90 degrees in stems from 1-499 Plus or Minus.

With this ability the SMA E-Document GmbH model SMA VERSASCAN A1 – A0 & Double A0 Flatbed Scanners plus the A2-A1 & A0 Book Scanners can produce a Virtual 3D image with one light source in one scan.

In addition the SMA E-Document GmbH model SMA VERSASCAN A1 – A0 & Double A0 Flatbed Scanners plus the A2-A1 & A0 Book Scanners with TWO Scans with 1. being scanned, say at a setting of minus -250 with the Left Light source & then a second image 2. being scanned say at a setting of plus +250 with the Right Light source.

Each of these images produce a Virtual 3D effect with 1. shadows on the RIGHT side where the surface is rippled or has heavy brush stokes.

The second image 2. then has shadows on the LEFT side where the surface is rippled or has heavy brush stokes.

By combining both images 1. & 2.  in Photoshop the shadows eliminate each other  & this produces an even more detailed Virtual 3D effect.

We have been advised that one of the current practices in the Fine Art & Framing Profession is to scan large format images of A1 or A0 in size utilizing A3 Scanners & then stitching the various images together to produce a final image which takes up to FIVE-5 YES FIVE hours of staff time to produce.

With the SMA E-Document GmbH model SMA VERSASCAN A1 – A0 & Double A0 Flatbed Scanners the scan time to scan an A0 size original is approximately 60 SECONDS at 600 x 600 PPI which not only is a fantastic saving in time but the quality of image produced is of a much HIGHER quality.

The images below have only been scanned on one side e.g. 1. at a minus -220 setting of the LEFT Light.
