2014 – AUGUST: LOC – Library of Congress USA has on the 21st August 2014 called for Solicitations for the installation of a Second Metis DRS model 2000 DCS Double A 0 Plus – Extra Large Format Planetary Flat Bed scanning system

The LOC – Library of Congress USA  has on the 21st August 2014 called for Solicitations for the installation of a Second Metis DRS 2000 DCS scanning system, which includes a scanner, computer workstation (s), and related software for image capture and image processing for creating high-resolution, high-quality digital images of oversized originals.

DS & ME understand that the first Metis DRS 2000 DCS scanning system was installed sometime earlier this year 2014.

The call for the installation of an additional Metis DRS 2000 DCS scanning system certainly indicates the success with the utilisation of the first Metis DRS 2000 DCS scanning system at the LOC – The Library of Congress USA. 0 METIS DRS 2000 DCS 2A0+ SCANNER

The METIS DRS model 2000 DCS Double A 0 Plus – Extra Large Format Planetary Flat Bed Scanner for Fine-Art and Industry ( +3D )

1 METIS DRS 2000 DCS 2A0+ SCANNER

The METIS DRS model 2000 DCS Double A 0 Plus – Extra Large Format Planetary Flat Bed Scanner for Fine-Art and Industry ( +3D )  is capable of scanning originals up to 200 x 133 cm and up to 50 cm thick.

Optical resolution can be set at up to 1,000 PPI = Pixels per Inch.

Include the patented DC SynchroLight technology, unique METIS SuperScan mode and the METIS Light Inspector software.

The METIS DRS model 2000 DCS Double A 0 Plus – Extra Large Format Planetary Flat Bed Scanner is designed for the quality scanning of Oversize Material such as Drawing/s, Map/s, Papyrus, Scroll/s, Parchment/s, & also Book/s, Atlas/s, etc. plus Fine – Art, Decor and Professional Cartography applications.

The METIS DRS model 2000 DCS Double A 0 Plus – Extra Large Format Planetary Flat Bed Scanner incorporates the new “DC SynchroLight” Lighting System which is LED based, ( Infra-Red – IR – Ultra Violet – UV free ) active only during the scanning process which provides for thousands of different light schematics for the Fine-Art scan mode: 3D image, post-scan light changes.

The METIS DRS model 2000 DCS Double A 0 Plus – Extra Large Format Planetary Flat Bed Scanner incorporates the innovative DC SynchroLight lighting system ( Dynamically Controlled Synchronized Light ) which incorporates a new technology developed by METIS & covered by patents deposited in January 2010, which allows dynamic control of the light in the scanning area.

Since the 1990′s, LOC – The Library of Congress USA has been digitizing its collections to make them accessible on the web.

Large format materials have presented special digitization challenges, including their unwieldy size and the time required to scan.

LOC is interested taking advantage of technology advances to produce high quality digital duplicates of oversize originals in an efficient manner with a minimum of handling.

Of particular interest in the context are the LOC’s large collections of oversized cartographic materials. LOC currently uses the Metis DRS 2000 DCS scanning system, which is capable of efficiently and accurately capturing oversized reflective originals of various formats and sizes up to 52 x 78 Inches =  1,321 x 1,981 Millimetres.

This scanning system is capable of capturing a digital image, regardless of the technology and engineering approach employed, as long as it meets the requirements of LOC.

The scanning system provides high levels of throughput, and will lend itself to incremental updates over time to take advantage of improved technologies.

LOC has established both information capture and imaging performance levels for the preservation digitization of these photographic originals.

In addition to the Low Entry Level METIS EDS Range of ALPHA & GAMMA Book & Flat Bed Scanners the METIS Range also includes the TOP OF THE LINE  for Professional Applications METIS – DRS models of Flat Bed Scanners for Book/s & Large Format Documents which can scan material up to a Maximum of 2,000 x 1,210 mm = ( 78.7 x 47.64 inches ) or over DOUBLE A 0 + in size & up to 200 mm = ( 7.874 inches ) thick all of which integrate a ( Patent protected technology ) the DC SynchroLight – The perfect merging between extreme quality and productivity for the most demanding market. Designed for the quality scanning for Digitisation Projects of Oversize Material such as Drawing/s, Map/s, Papyrus, Scroll/s, Parchment/s, & also Book/s, Atlas/s, etc. plus Fine – Art, Decor and Professional Cartography applications.

In addition the METIS Systems Group now have added the METIS SUPERSCAN PM3D the first industrial scanner able to acquire Colour and 3D surface embossing based on new METIS PM3D® technology ( Patent protected ).

The SUPERSCAN PM3D ® is the first scanner to breach the resolution limits caused by the number of pixels in the imaging sensors thanks to an innovative opto-mechanical design that allows a native optical resolution of 1,200 PPI on the full scanning area ( 2,000 x 1,300 mm ).

Thanks to the Scan Merge tool scanning very large originals (exceeding the scanning area) is now also possible with perfect results. The SUPERSCAN PM3D ® adopt the new METIS Scan Director software that have been designed specially to fulfil the requirements of the industrial, fine-arts and decorative markets and for handling 3D data.
